Michelle Obama Writes her Thank You Notes with Fallon
Michelle Obama joined Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show” Wednesday in her final late show appearance as sitting First Lady. “I didn’t think that it was going to be that emotional, because it’s like, yeah, we’re ready”.
Following Barack Obama’s emotional farewell address in Chicago on Tuesday night, the first lady headed to NY for “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”. When Stephen Colbert asked Obama if she had any sympathy for the future first lady after the gaffe, she summed up her thoughts succinctly: “Yeah, that was tough”. “I’ve let her stay up and watch your speeches, but the reason I do it is because the thread that runs through your speeches is kindness, always kindness”.
That eventually led to a segment called “Thank You Notes”, where Michelle thanked Barack for being her “silver fox”. Of course, she and Fallon were standing just behind the photo, and they listened in as people shared their heartfelt thanks and touching stories about what her First Ladyship has meant to them.
Singer Stevie Wonder dedicated his performances of “Isn’t She Lovely” and “My Cherie Amour” to the outgoing first lady. Watching Fallon and Obama dorky dance beside each other is a treat.
“This was not what I was expecting”. O – hard. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon gave everyday folks an opportunity to tell her just how they felt before she leaves the White House, and the result was incredible. “You have been such an wonderful partner on all my initiatives”, Michelle told Jimmy on the show.
“Kids are my heart”, she said.
The whole thing is enough to make you laugh and cry at the same time! “Having that multigenerational existence kept us all grounded”, she said.
“I want to thank you”.
President-elect Donald Trump is due to be sworn in at his inauguration on January 20.
Moments before President Barack Obama walked on stage to give his farewell address at McCormick Place in Chicago, the crowd roared once Michelle Obama entered the conference center with daughter Malia in tow.
