Michigan football’s Facebook page was hacked
Facebook and Michigan temporarily disabled the pages that were hacked, but those pages are active again.
Starting at around 3:30 a.m. ET, Michigan football’s official Facebook page began sharing links to freakish and somewhat risqué click bait-y “stories” in an apparent hack. Not long afterward, the pages had been restored.
Michigan let fans know on Twitter that they were working “diligently” to fix the problem, and just before 10 a.m., the three Facebook pages were back up and running.
Michigan is now reviewing their social media strategy.
“We are continuing to work closely with Facebook to identify the source of the breech and take necessary precautions to safeguard against future attacks”.
The University of Michigan also posted a statement on the Facebook pages saying that they had resolved the situation and deleted any offensive posts.
The compromised page is Michigan Football’s verified page and has more than 1.4 million fans.
