Michigan House approves $9.3M to address Flint water crisis
“This is an important step necessary to fix the current crisis, and once this is complete, it’s important that our next priority is getting to the bottom of how this happened”, said Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich, D-Flint in a statement.
The state corroborated findings of elevated lead levels in children and disclosed higher lead amounts in three Flint schools.
The state is expecting to undergo a through investigation as to how to public health crisis was caused. “It’s a public health emergency”.
In March, the Flint council approved a resolution to reconnect the city to the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, according to the Flint Journal.
City officials have announced the city is returning to the old water source, Lake Huron.
(CNN)Flint, Michigan, is one step closer to having clean water again after its water was found to contain toxic levels of lead. Residents have complained of a funky smell, taste and appearance, as well as adverse health reactions. It will also pay for more water filters, water testing, and a program to help children who have been exposed to lead. The governor’s involvement was never publicized, the newspaper reported, because pastors said they were told to stay quiet.
