Michigan loses LB Mario Ojemudia for season: 3 things to know
“He’s going to have a surgery and fix his Achilles, which is tough, because it’s a really tough rehab”, coach Jim Harbaugh said on his radio show Monday confirming the injury, via the Detroit Free Press.
He left last Saturday’s 31-0 win over BYU in the second half with an injury to his right ankle or foot. It remains to be seen if either will play Saturday when the 18th-ranked Wolverines host No. 13 Northwestern, but so far, Harbaugh seems encouraged. Jenkins-Stone has started two games in his career. “I think we’ll have somebody who will get in there and get the job done”. It’s the kind of injury you can come back successfully from it. But it’s also a hard and tough rehab.
Michigan will be without starting tailback De’Veon Smith and cornerback Channing Stribling for today’s Big Ten opener at Maryland.
Through the first five games of the season, Ojemudia was Michigan’s third-leading tackler. Stribling’s ailment has not been disclosed.
Michigan’s matchup with Northwestern will put two of the nation’s top defenses, statistically at least, on the same field. “We’ll see how that goes”.
Harbaugh expects both Smith and Stribling to practice Monday, and hopes they needed to miss only one game to get healthy enough to play.
The Wildcats are giving up an average of seven points a game and the Wolverines are allowing 7.6, ranking No. 1 and 2 among FBS programs.
