Michigan Powerball victor had ‘bad night’ before checking numbers
The sole victor of a $310.5 million Powerball jackpot has finally come forward to claim Michigan’s second-largest win for lotteries in state history – and her reaction was priceless.
“I keep going to sleep and waking up with the same attractive dream”, the 50-year-old told reporters in a news conference at the Michigan Lottery headquarters.
“I worked a [night] shift and at about 6:30 at night I stopped to get my coffee and bought $20 worth of lottery tickets”, Leach said.
Julie learned that she was the victor while she was on a work break in the drive-thru of a McDonald’s while waiting for her food. Leach chose the lump sum of $197.4 million, which is about $140 million after taxes. “I had to go back to work and get verified from a couple other coworkers and just couldn’t believe it”.
Leach says she’ll take care of her kids and 11 grandchildren with the jackpot.
“I’m still in disbelief”, Leach said. “We don’t have to work anymore, ‘” Leach said.
