Michigan’s football game at Maryland moved to noon
It was Maryland’s first shutout loss since its 63-0 loss to then-No. The Terps are having a rough time with their quarterback consistency, the pass defense, and finding anything positive to work around, but beating Michigan would all but wipe the slate clean.
Back-to-back shutouts, eight scoreless quarters, 120 minutes without a point is impressive any way you look at it. But this isn’t a game I’m going to get swept up in how well the defense played because I think the opponent simply played that bad. Rowe threw two interceptions – the first when he tried to hit a completely covered D.J. Moore on the sideline, the second when running back Brandon Ross couldn’t hang on to a screen pass and tipped the ball into the air – as his struggles continued.

One to two inches of rain were expected by evening, however, the State of Emergency in Maryland, issued earlier in the week when it was unclear what direction Joaquin would take, was lifted on Friday. Backup Taiwan Deal has performed well and was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after rushing for 146 yards and 2 touchdowns against Hawaii. Graduate student Jake Rudock went 16-for-32 for 180 yards and a touchdown. A bright spot for Maryland’s offense, however, is in its running game, as the team is averaging 5.9 yards per carry. He also leads the nation with two punt returns for touchdowns. On a fourth-and-three, Rudock rolled right and looked to pass but found nothing and ran it himself, cutting back to the middle of the field for a 20-yard gain and a first down.
Johnson finished with 72 yards on 14 attempts.
So the challenge is clear for Maryland’s front seven, especially if conditions force them to stop what they now is coming.
The Terrapins went to the Big House last November and came away with a 23-16 victory.
The Terps defense finally broke in the third quarter. Garman felt the pressure, as he was sacked multiple times.
Yet neither time U-M was able to punch it in the end zone, looking far different than the first half last week against BYU.
The Badgers (2-7-0, 1-1-0) have been a much better road team this season, and they’re looking to pick up their second consecutive Big Ten road win following their double-overtime thriller against Rutgers.
