Michigan’s November Unemployment Rate Edges Up
Tennessee Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips announced Thursday the Tennessee preliminary unemployment rate for November was 5.6 percent, unchanged from the October revised rate. MA remains below the national rate of 5 percent in November.
Michigan’s jobless rate at this time a year ago was 6.5 percent. The jobless rate in the Detroit area was 5.9 percent.
Total non-farm employment increased 1,000 jobs from October to November.
State officials are reporting a slight uptick in the unemployment rate in MA even as the state continues to gain jobs.
Among the fields seeing a boost in employment: trade, transportation and warehousing and professional and business services. The majority of the new claims are considered “temporary” in the manufacturing sector.
The number of unemployed Tennesseans in November was an estimated 169,800.
In November, the state’s labor force increased by 14,236 to 4,750,020. Now, for four months in a row that rate has checked in below 6 percent – so it’s no fluke.
Overall, the state’s workforce added about 1,000 jobs in November, according to data released today by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.
