Michigan Wolverines play for the Final Four vs. Florida State
After routing A&M, the MI athletics twitter account trolled ESPN for ranking them 15th out of the remaining Sweet 16 teams.
After capturing the Big Ten Tournament championship, the Wolverines entered the 2018 NCAA Tournament as a No. 3 seed.
The Michigan Wolverines dominated from start to finish in their convincing 99-72 victory over #7 Texas A&M on Thursday night.
The Wolverines will face fourth-seeded Gonzaga or No. 9 seed Florida State on Saturday in the regional final.
Hit 10 3-pointers and it’s going to be awfully hard for Florida State to win the game.
“We had some guys who were just running, but now they're working with a objective”, Hood said.
How out of control was this one? After shooting just 27% from the floor in the first two rounds, Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman scored 24 points, made four 3’s and had seven assists in the Sweet 16.
“My shot went in early and it gives you the confidence to take the next one”, Abdur-Rahkman said. “I think I’m unguardable, unstoppable”.
“It may be that I’m overlooked, but at the same time, I just come out and play my game”, Starks said on Wednesday. Furthermore, the Wolverines are the better defensive team in this matchup, plus Florida State has been out-rebounded in all three tournament games. That was certainly true in the team’s first two NCAA Tournament games, when the third-seeded Wolverines fell behind 10-0 against Montana and took over 5½ minutes to make a field goal against Houston.
Kentucky shot just 26 percent in the first half but managed to close the gap before the break.
Even after it was clear to the rest of the country MI was on its way to a lopsided Sweet 16 win against Texas A&M, coach John Beilein wasn’t about to get comfortable. It’s not always going to be, we’re making a whole bunch of 3s and things like that.
It’s been over 24 hours since the North Carolina Tar Heels were bounced out of the NCAA Tournament by Texas A&M in blowout fashion. Their bench has been phenomenal as the reserves have contributed 118 points, 59 rebounds and 22 assists in their three tournament games so far.
According to oddsmakers at YouWager, Michigan is favored in this game, as the Wolverines are getting odds of -4.5 points against Florida State. MI ranks 31st with 113.7 points per 100 possessions and Florida State is 59th (111.7). Moritz Wagner finished with 21 points and Charles Matthews added 18. “We’ve been playing within ourselves all year and not looking at the opponent too much”. When asked if he thinks the Seminoles have “the best fortnight squad in NCAA basketball, ” he said, “I’d probably say we have the best squad in the nation right now”. Coming out of the under-four-minute media timeout, Robinson struck again on a corner triple for a 29-point U-M lead before A&M scored the final points to make it a 52-28 score at the half. Florida State’s junkyard defense allowed that many 3-pointers only once in 34 games this season.
Texas A&M was just 12-of-32 from the floor in the half, while the Wolverines shot 57 percent.
Wagner played his best half of the tournament during the opening half on Thursday, as the 6-foot-11 big man stayed out of foul trouble and outplayed Texas A&M center Tyler Davis. Yet, on that night it only showed how good the team was shooting from the field.
