Mick McCarthy unhappy with “sobering” Ipswich Town loss
Mick McCarthy has described Ipswich Town’s thrashing at the hands of Reading in the Championship as a “sobering defeat” for his side.
Matej Vydra is set to make his Reading debut at home to Ipswich on Friday night, live on Sky Sports 5 HD.
“I’ve now got really good options in forward areas, which perhaps is something I didn’t have before”, Clarke told BBC Radio Berkshire. “Nine points from six games is not something to be too carried away with”. But it’s important to put that to bed. Clarke, with 11 new signings in the summer, finally feels his side is beginning to gel.
“In the last game at Brentford our performance in the first half was unbelievable but against Ipswich we played really well for the 90 minutes”. Tonight obviously was a different level of performance in terms of attacking. “Second half we tweaked the system and I think that made a difference”. We had no shape and that was as bad as we have played in a long time. “Then the timing of the third goal from Nick, and after that we could pick them off”. “The front three were good and combined well”, he stated.
It continued after the break and just four minutes in they restored their two-goal advantage.
“Ollie will be coming back in a positive frame of mind with Northern Ireland having nearly qualified, which is great because they bring that feelgood factor into the club and that’s what we want”.
“Injuries come with the game but hopefully I can have a good season both for myself and especially for Ipswich”.
“When I look at the squad we’ve got now and the creativity, I think it’s a team that will create chances and score goals”.
It was a rare heavy defeat for McCarthy’s men at Madejski Stadium on Friday night.
