Micronesia lose 46-0 for third straight record defeat
That lop-sided margin equalled the Pacific Games record. Vanuatu’s 20-year-old striker Jean Kaltack finished the match with 16 goals.
The hapless Micronesians have been dubbed the “worst team ever” on social media, with even ex- Spurs manager Harry Redknapp chipping in, saying: “I saw Micronesia lost 38-0 to Fiji at the weekend and thought it was a rugby score!” So that makes two games, with a -68 goal difference.
The Federated States of Micronesia’s total population: 103,000. And lost 38-0.

Fiji plays PNG in their third game at 9pm (Fiji) tonight.
While this may seem like one team disrespectfully running up the score against a much lesser opponent, Vanuatu actually had a good excuse for scoring 46 goals. “That’s what we came here for”.
“We’re here for development purposes mainly and I’m just trying to keep the guys upbeat”.
“Most of these [players] are in their late teenage years and that’s why I selected this team”.
“These players are pioneers”.
Not many people would have been paying attention to the Pacific Games Group A match between Micronesia and Fiji overnight.
“These facilities are checked and are of world standard and if they don’t want, they just can leave”.
“Hopefully in 10 years or so they’ll have a proper team and this would have all been worth it”.
Micronesia’s Australian coach Stan Foster admitted it was “boys against men” on the field and called on Federation Internationale de Football Association officially to recognise the nation and give them a world ranking, which he said would open the door to technical assistance.
The top two sides in each group go through to the semi-finals of the Olympic qualifying tournament.
He says Federated States of Micronesia will be back at the next Pacific Games in Tonga.
