Microsoft announces Box app for Windows 10
The first major update to Windows 10 was released for US customers today, with Microsoft unveiling a host of handy new Cortana features, enhancements to Edge, and several adjustments focused squarely on making life easier for IT managers.
It has been revealed this week that Windows 10 has attempted to install itself onto many users’ computers, regardless of them not giving Microsoft explicit permission for it to do so.
Members of the Windows Insiders program have been evaluating new builds for this update since the initial July release of Windows 10, which was codenamed Threshold 2 (TH2). Microsoft now regularly updates Windows 10 and even beta-tests updates in the open, for those customers willing to put up with unfinished software just so they can experience new features before everyone else.
One of the most important improvements include the enhanced performance in everyday tasks, such as boot time is now almost 30% faster than Windows 7 on the same device.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has revealed the first major update for Windows 10 on pc and tablets, according to a report by Venture Beat today. If you’re running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, you can take advantage of the free upgrade offer and receive the November Update integrated into your Windows 10 upgrade. With the update, Cortana will be able to send users reminders regarding upcoming events and movie times so that they know when to leave to get to the theater on time. The new features that are available, though, are syncing Favorites, Reading list items between PCs, tab previews, and casting media from sites like YouTube or Facebook to Miracast or DLNA devices.
“We’re just calling it the November update”, said Yusuf Mehdi, executive vice president of Microsoft’s Windows and devices group. And speaking of Cortana, she’s now available in Canada, India, Australia and Japan.
Microsoft Edge updates include the ability to hover over your taps and get a preview of where you’re about to visit.
Other apps such as Mail, Calendar, Photos, Groove, Xbox, Store, OneNote, Solitaire, and more, have been improved too.
If you’re already running Windows 10, you are eligible for the new upgrade.
Further changes have been made to provide enhanced device management and security with all the Windows 10 devices in your business. The Windows 10 update adds new IT-level Windows 10 management tools to help businesses keep Windows 10 up-to-date, a new Windows Update for Business, as well as a Windows Store for Business. “For example for devices with pen capability you can write notes to Cortana and she’ll set reminders for you”, Korst said.
