Microsoft Calls for Peace Outside Apple Store in Spirit of the Holidays
The video goes on to show Apple employees walk out of their store to listen to the Microsoft carollers and children’s choirs, which is in itself some feat given that it was probably hard to hear them over the constant ringing of the cash register. Apple Store representatives are appeared outside getting a charge out of the signal and after the singing the Microsoft and Apple Store laborers are indicated embracing one another.
Joined by a local youth choir, Microsoft Store employees marched down Fifth Avenue and assembled outside of Apple’s glass-front store to sing “let there be peace on earth”.
It seems Microsoft is willing to let go of its long-standing rivalry with Apple this Christmas. The ad is an attempt at positive brand recognition via the good-natured times of Christmas, unlike the decision made a year ago to ridicule the iPad. The ad, which was filmed on November 16, ends with Microsoft employees hugging Apple workers and breaking into applause.
It’s unclear whether Microsoft truly intends to put aside the Mac vs. PC advertising beef for good or whether it’s simply playing nice for the holidays, but don’t be surprised if the tech rivals are back to sniping at each other come January.
