Microsoft Ignores Windows Phone Again, Builds Curved One-Hand iPhone Keyboard
A screenshot of Microsoft’s upcoming keyboard for iOS has been leaked online by The Verge revealing a one-handed typing mode. Swipe keyboard has always been a problem in large screened phones even though I’m blessed with a relatively big sized palm, it still is hard to clutch the phone tightly and swipe the message. What you may notice is that to the left and right of the predictive text area are two curved icons which are used to engage left and right-handed typing modes.
A few days back, Microsoft began sending out invites to Insiders to try out Microsoft’s Word Flow keyboard on iOS that will eventually be coming to Android as well.
Microsoft has recently announced that it’s bringing WordFlow, its super cool keyboard for Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile, on iOS, but according to a recent report, iPhone users will get an exclusive feature too. Microsoft’s own devices have a one-handed mode, but it shrinks the letters down to one side rather than rearranging the keys.
Released in July a year ago as part of Windows Phone 8.1, Word Flow allows users to type words simply by gliding their fingers over the letters on the keyboard, as with Swype. The keyboard was designed for one-handed thumb typing without having to look and features several keys clustered together, leveraging disambiguation to decide what word is in fact being typed.
As you can see in the picture above, the keyboard is a riff on what’s found in Windows 10 Mobile, but has been slightly tweaked for better usability.
