Microsoft launches much powerful Windows 10
So the Windows 10 launch date has come and gone, and people on qualifying PCs who opted into Microsoft’s free upgrade via the little icon that appeared in their task bars a month or so back are in the process of upgrading.
“Windows 10 makes it easier to develop apps for the UWP with just one API set, one app package, and one store to reach all Windows 10 devices – PC, tablet, phone and more”, the firm states on the Windows Developer Centre.
Edge is a leaner, simpler version of a Web browser with built-in features for a more fluid user-Internet interaction.
The upgrade is free for the next 364 days providing your PC is running Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, and users that qualify will start receiving download notifications from Wednesday.
The company is also offering Windows 10 as a free download, any time over the next year, to anyone who has the Home or Pro versions of Windows 7 or 8 (but not the Enterprise versions used by big organizations). There was no Windows 9.
Nadella wants consumers to not just need Windows, but to choose it and, more importantly, love it. If Windows ten proves to be a success, Microsoft’s next challenge will be to convert the P-C users to mobile customers. Microsoft is betting that a large pool of users will help convince independent programmers that it’s worth their time to build useful or entertaining apps for Windows 10 devices.
Microsoft is nearly ready with its new creation, the Microsoft Windows 10. Devices running Windows 10 will be available in some retail stores around the world between mid-August and September. There is also an option to manually download the update via Microsoft’s update centre if you don’t want to wait.
Windows 10 is available to start deploying within their work environments from August 1.
