Microsoft launches three new Lumia phones
The reason behind delaying the release of the Lumia 950 and the 950 XL until next month is the Redmond giant wants to release both handsets with the “Threshold 2” edition of Windows 10 Mobile scheduled to be ready by November.
Microsoft also announced a low-end Windows 10 smartphone, the Lumia 550, based on Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor, with prices starting from $139 in the US.

The Surface Book by Microsoft is priced at $1,499 and is available to pre-order on October 7. There’s 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage (expandable), and a 3000 mAh battery. Microsoft says the Surface Book is housed in a machined magnesium body – basically, it’s a silver metal laptop, but it manages to look far different than a MacBook, despite its similarities in name, reports The Verge. If this picture does turn out to be genuine then the removable 3440 mAh battery is going to be powering the new device.
No surprise that Microsoft also introduced three new Lumia smartphones (there were plenty of leaked details in the past couple of weeks) and “reinforced its commitment to mobile”.
Besides, Microsoft also unveiled the latest version of the Surface Pro featuring a 12.3-inch display.
“Over 1,000 businesses have chosen Lumia phones in the past year”, he added. Microsoft will probably announce the same today at their event at New York.
The Lumia 950, codenamed “Talkman” and the Lumia 950XL codenamed “Cityman” have been previously leaked in various renders and videos, revealing their specifications and features.
The update will bring “a complete redesign built on the cornerstone of Windows 10”, Microsoft said, offering “the fastest and most social Xbox experience ever”.
The Lumia 950 includes a 5.2-inch display and a hexacore processor, while the larger Lumia 950 XL has a 5.7-inch display with an octacore chip. It has a 20-megapixel PureView rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter, and further specs include 4G LTE connectivity and USB Type-C port.
In addition, Wired explained that the Microsoft laptop also carries a “killer display” which can be converted to a very useful tablet when needed.
