Microsoft Lumia 650 announcement expected on February 1
The company has however been trying hard to promote their brand of mobile phones, and with the windows 10 mobile OS out, their efforts have rejuvenated as the company gears up to release the new updates for their latest devices: the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. The blog post will give details about the specifications, pricing and the availability.
The phone is expected to run Windows 10 Mobile and will likely be priced as a budget device, similar to the Lumia 550 before it.
This is a few weeks ahead of the mobile focused tech show, MWC, in Barcelona but Microsoft tends to avoid making announcements at this type of event and the Lumia 650 hardly warrants an event of its own.
Expect a 5in 720×1280 display, a downgrade compared with the QHD screens on Microsoft’s high-end duo of devices, and a Snapdragon 210 or 212 processor paired with 1GB RAM.
According to reports in Windows Central, the Windows 10 Mobile smartphone will have support for expandable storage via MicroSD but no wireless charging. The company is also thought to be in the process of abandoning the old Nokia name as well as dropping the Lumia brand in order to launch new flagship phones under its existing Surface name, which the premium brand used for its well-received laptop-tablet hybrids.
As for the rumored Lumia 750 and 850, the publication believes these devices were cancelled in July of 2015.
According to WMPU, the long rumoured Lumia 650 will be the last Lumia device.
Microsoft has proven that it is not very anxious about its Lumia series, and appears to be focusing on creating a surface smart phone.
Microsoft, Blackberry, Nokia and Palm were the largest as well as most successful players for the smartphone arena prior to Apple releasing its original iPhone during June of 2007 and the release of Google’s first smartphone powered by Android, in October of 2008 known as T-Mobile G1. Multiple reports indicate that this could be the last 5-inch Lumia that Microsoft will launch. It s still uncertain if it will be covered with a plastic frame or a top quality metallic body like the cover of the highly-anticipated Lumia 650’s images that were released lately.
