Microsoft makes Baidu a big piece of Windows 10 in China
In the past, Microsoft has also partnered with Tencent, a social networking and gaming service in the world, Qihoo 360, an internet security company in China along with Lenovo, one of the world’s leading PC manufacturers as well. While, Microsoft’s Windows OS has a significant desktop presence there, the awkward level of nationwide piracy obscures Microsoft ability to monetize its efforts in the area effectively.
Microsoft also announced that Baidu.com would become the default search and homepage for Chinese users in the Microsoft Edge browser in the Windows 10 operating system. The company has tried a few methods to lure these users over to its newest OS – earlier this year, Microsoft offered Chinese pirates the chance to upgrade to (an unlicensed version of) Windows 10 for free, a move the company said was designed to “re-engage” with users in the country.
So what does this mean for Bing – and Microsoft’s Bing-powered Cortana personal digital assistant that’s baked into Windows 10?
After Microsoft released Windows 10 last June 29, 10 million installs of the new operating system have been recorded in the country.
Come in Baidu’s 600 million active internet users who will help the company reach its goals. Baidu role in the search placement will be reciprocated by making life easier should customers want to to update to Windows 10, and those search for Windows 10 on the China search engine will see a large banner advertisement on the top of their screens – redirecting them to a dedicated download site just for Windows 10.
Despite the use of Baidu for search on Windows 10, Microsoft still iterated its commitment to Bing, while also providing local experiences tailored for countries like China.
