Microsoft makes Project Spark game creation tool free-to-all
However, after this update, Microsoft will no longer be creating any new content for Project Spark itself. Project Spark brings creation to life and presents endless opportunities for play. Have any of you tried Project Spark at all?
On October 5th, the current free-to-play model will be ditched and all content previously hidden behind a microtransaction paywall will be available to all.
It let users make their own games on Windows PCs and the Xbox One.
The change is a new twist in user-generated content, and it is not unexpected given Microsoft bought Mojang, the maker of Minecraft, for $2.5 billion a year ago. In turn, Microsoft will move from creating more features and content to pushing users to create more experiences using Project Spark.
Project Spark wants to shift its gears from gameplay to creativity and allow users to take control and develop their own little world. Microsoft Store credits will be awarded automatically to all users within 30-60 days after October 5.
Rahul Sandil, head of Project Spark Acquisition/Engagement, is quoted by the Xbox Wire as stating, “Project Spark inspires and empowers over 200,000 creators who have shared tens of millions of custom objects, behaviors and experiences”. Every day we see anywhere between 300 and 400 new games being uploaded on our platform.
Those who dished out for the retail version of Project Spark (and activated it after July 28th, 2015) and those with unused tokens in their account, are being offered the equivalent amount in Microsoft Store credit.
Achievements have been revamped for players and creatorsThe achievement changes have been made not only because a few of them would have become unachievable otherwise, but also due to community feedback that a few of the achievements were overly frustrating.
