Microsoft opens NY studio to showcase HoloLens headset
Alex Kipman, in a blog post over at the Microsoft Devices site, shared the news and explained that the recently completed HoloLens Roadshow events were so popular that space ran out for all of them within 90 minutes of the sign-up process opening. As a result, Microsoft has added its tour showcase to its NY store. Developers will be able to sign up for sessions, so that they can get some one-on-one time with the equipment. In the New York Metropolitan alone, hundreds of developers are on the wait list.
Demand to play around with Microsoft’s new hologram headset is off the charts, so Microsoft has created a space in its new Fifth Avenue flagship store where people can come to experience it for themselves.
According to Microsoft, software developers observe a hands-on demonstration of the device, and they will have an opportunity to experience HoloLens first hand. As people are immerse within the holograms they can look at them from many different angles and perspectives because they see them all as three-dimensional objects. The new studio in NY was designed as a long-term home for the demos. Alien robot drone things bust through the walls, and you have to shoot them before they shoot you. Another shows the technology’s potential in presentations and sales, using a luxury watch as an example of how holograms can give potential customers more insights into features. Interested developers who want to see and experience the HoloLens are required to make an appointment at the company’s website. A developer’s edition will be shipping in the first quarter of 2016. It’s been almost a year since we first strapped on a prototype, and as the tech goliath prepares to unleash a first batch of units to developers in the coming months, I was invited to check out just how far the technology has come.
