Microsoft Project Scorpio Straight Up Dominates PS4 Pro
Speaking to Eurogamer, Microsoft revealed that Project Scorpio is effectively a ground-up rethink with a view to supporting native Ultra HD resolutions in future games. As we get closer to Project Scorpio’s fall 2017 launch, here’s what we know so far about how its stacks up to the competition.
We look forward to E3 to find out more concrete details about the console’s price point and to actually get our first look at the machine itself. There are no games that will be exclusive to Project Scorpio, meaning that there are no games which will be specifically created to take advantage of its potential. What kind of performance boosts can we expect in DX12 games like Gears of War 4, Halo 5: Guardians, Battlefield 1, and Forza Horizon 3 while running on Project Scorpio?
The launch of what will be the world’s most powerful ever console later this year could be enough to hand sector momentum back to Xbox. It equates to almost five times the performance of the original Xbox One, which is why Digital Foundry demos saw a Forza tech demo running at 4K resolution at a steady 60 frames per second with plenty of headroom.
It also appears there’s more power in reserve. Between price, software and more, here are five areas Microsoft should investigate to make Scorpio a success.
Even Digital Foundry is impressed with the Xbox Scorpio, praising its “sheer horsepower”, six-teraflop graphical power, and noteworthy clock speed, which is unprecedentedly high for a console.
The Xbox Project Scorpio is a combination of smart design and powerful internal features. However, Microsoft has confirmed to GameSpot that VR will be part of the picture for the new console. As for cost, Microsoft told us absolutely nothing – but looking at what’s in it, it ain’t going to be cheap. If this doesn’t seem enough to let everyone know that Project Scorpio is superior to PS4 Pro, readers should know that Project Scorpio ships with 12GB of GDDR5 while PS4 Pro features only 8GB of GDDR5.
“The goal was that any 900p or better title would be able to easily run at frame-rate at 4K on Scorpio”, said Kevin Gammill, Program Director of Xbox.
