Microsoft’s Sassy New Advert Takes Aim At Apple
The title of the video is “What’s a computer, just ask Cortana” which is also a dig at Apple, as the commercial makes it clear the Redmond based company does not believe the iPad Pro is a computer. Interestingly, the ad features the company’s latest device Surface Pro 4 backed with Cortana, against Apple’s iPad Pro and Siri voice command.
“We try lots of things out with Surface, and have mocked up a lot of different types of Type Covers for Surface Pro.”, Panos Panay, corporate vice president of Microsoft Devices, wrote in a blog post.
Arch rivals Microsoft and Apple are in another tit-for-tat war of words – this time over the iPad’s keyboard.
“I just got a keyboard”, Siri announces in the advert, “I’m a computer now, like you”.
Microsoft fans expect that the next laptop will boast of the most powerful combination of software and hardware, especially with the recent news that it will be installed with the latest Intel processor, Kaby Lake, which is slated for a 2017 launch. In the advertisement, the iPad Pro falls short on nearly every specification, which is mentioned by Cortana.
The new Type Covers include “full-bleed National Football League logos printed on premium and durable material”, Microsoft says. “I’m a computer now, like you”, Siri said in the commercial.
On that note, the series of shots fired at the iPad Pro include questions about its processor, support for the full version of Office as opposed to the app version, a trackpad and USB ports. If you’re the personable type who loves to go on and on about his/her favorite NFL team, imagine how many conversations you will start with the NFL Type Cover hooked up to your Surface Pro 4.
