Microsoft’s show of force: Lumia 950, 950XL

At an event in New York, the company unveiled its first laptop, a new line of Lumia smartphones, a new Surface Pro tablet and an updated version of its wearable fitness tracker, Microsoft Band – all running on its latest operating system Windows 10.

Microsoft said the laptop the Surface Book will start at 1499 and is twice as fast as Apple’s MacBook Pro.

The Surface Book is a gorgeous new laptop that’s super powerful, light and thin – in other words, it’s the laptop Microsoft should have released years ago. Since the tablet-laptop hybrid is designed for note-taking, it comes with an upgraded Surface Pen which works well with the touchscreen display not only when writing, but also when erasing, all thanks to its eraser top. So why now? Microsoft might be looking to give consumers a computer it believes delivers the full Windows 10 experience, much like Google does with its Nexus devices. The company announced its new flagship phones, the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, along with the Microsoft Display Dock.

Microsoft unveiled its first-ever laptop on Tuesday, October 6, and early reviews for the Surface Book are great.

Microsoft has just refreshed its hardware lineup. Not all devices will support all the Windows 10 features.

The new Surface Pro 4 was something we’ve expected all along, though a few might have been disappointed by the lack of any major new feature on the device. Microsoft is counting on Windows 10, to help triumph a superior share of the market which consists of tablets and smartphones, which are dominated by Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung.

After years of competing in the smartphone industry, Microsoft decides to take on a niche market instead, focusing on sophisticated business-oriented customers.

Important changes have been made to the Surface Pro’s design, hardware and accessories.

The screen can also be detached from the keyboard to make the device into a tablet.

In terms of performance, it would be two times the speed of a MacBook Pro with 12 hours battery longevity. The Surface Book is quite similar to the Macbook Pro, but pricing starts at around $200 higher for the former. Lumia 950 has Hexa Core processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB as its starting storage measuring up to 5.2 inches, and a starting price of $549.
