Microsoft’s Surface Book 2-in-1 includes Skylake and an Nvidia GPU
Microsoft device chief Panos Panay held the Surface Book upside down and sideways as part of the demo during the media event in New York City to show off how tightly the screen docked with the keyboard. Microsoft also says the custom chipset it’s created for the tablet makes it so that you can seamlessly switch between ink and digital content when using the pen.
Its first ever laptop, the Microsoft Surface Book, was the big announcement and is said to be the most powerful 13-inch laptop ever made.
“What if we could do for laptops what we did for tablets”, said a Microsoft spokesperson. “It’s gorgeous”, reports the Verge.
Microsoft’s Surface Book tablet-notebook aims to take on Apple’s MacBook Pro.
Holograms of zombies at one point invaded the stage during a demonstration of the Microsoft Hololens, which can turn the user’s surroundings into an interactive game. But this hybrid functionality aside, when the keyboard and screen are together it really does look like a laptop.
Users will be able to pre-order the device starting Oct. 7 and will release Oct. 26. With Windows 10 having been launched this past summer, it took a bit longer for the Surface Pro 4 to arrive than most had expected, but that extra wait does mean one important thing: Intel’s latest and greatest Skylake processors are under the hood. The $139 Lumia 550 is being billed as Microsoft’s “most affordable 4G LTE smartphone running Windows 10”.
The Surface Pro 4 comes with the new Surface Pen, which features 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity and will be available in a couple of different versions.
Besides supporting touch input for Windows 10, the Surface Book has another advantage over Apple’s notebook offerings. The screen, which is a Surface Pro 4, can be detached from the keyboard for alternate viewing modes. The ultrathin device has a 13.5-inch screen, sixth-generation Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) Core i5 or Core i7 processors and up to 12 hours of battery life. The Surface Book’s display can be detached from its base to be transformed into a tablet. I am intrigued. It comes out at the end of the month and starts at $1,499.
Though, the giant later also unveiled its two flagship phones, Lumia 950 along with its phablet variant Lumia 950XL.
Both the 5.2-inch Lumia 950 and 5.7-inch Lumia 950XL run on Microsoft’s latest Windows 10 Mobile operating system.
