Microsoft’s Terry Myerson confirms “premium Lumia” phones are coming soon
The Microsoft Lumia 940 and 940 XL – which have already been the subject of several leaks and rumors – will cost more than the Samsung Galaxy S6 as well as Apple’s iPhone 6.
The success of the Lumia 920 was largely due to it being the only windows phone 8 handset released when the OS arrived.
Lumia series is concentrating to provide quality-shooting experience, and devices like Lumia 940 and Lumia 1030 are the clear evidence of the fact. It will have an iris scanner feature, replacing the fingerprint reader, though it ought to be mentioned that Microsoft has not confirmed whether the latter option remains or not in Lumia 940. But Nadella also promised a flagship that fans will love, and that is where things get a bit tricky for these two smartphones. In terms of camera, the device will feature a 20MP rear unit and a 5MP front shooter.
Earlier in July, TechTimes reported the probable specifications of the upcoming Lumia 940XL handset as it will sport a 5.7-inch display size with 2560 x 1440 pixels resolution, featuring the upgraded Quad HD type display.
We’ll give you a brief reminder of leaked specs so far for both phones, although we should point out that we should still treat these as unconfirmed at this time.
In terms of processing gusto, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 will be used by the 940 XL, coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage while the 940 will use the slightly slower Qualcomm Snapdragon 808. Rest of the Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL specs are almost the same as revealed in previous rumors. This confirmation prompted observers to speculate that the upcoming Microsoft handset could be the successor to the Lumia 930, released past year. As with the smaller 940, the Lumia 940 XL is likely to be running Windows 10. However, the rumored timeframe of around November seems to dispute this.
