Microsoft wins GE contract, 300,000 employees get Office 365 – Computer

The Microsoft Office 365 cloud platform is providing the agencies with “significantly improved email, instant messaging, desktop voice/video communications, productivity and user storage capabilities”, according to the Air Force. Chinese data center provider 21Vianet, for example, is the official provider of Office 365 and Microsoft Azure in mainland China.

In a blog post on the Microsoft website, GE’s CTO, Larry Biagini, said the idea of upgrading productivity apps every few years, and taking more than a year to do so, was not sustainable for the large organisation.

Ultimately, GE also touts Office 365’s ability to help GE comply with myriad government regulations including the ability to move ‘seamlessly between the cloud and on-premises IT, enabling a ‘hybrid model has allowed the company to advance its productivity suite while maintaining strict compliance.’.
