Middlesbrough sign Brad Guzan on two-year deal
Sources told ESPN earlier this month that Boro had targeted Guzan to prove cover and competition for Valdes as they prepare for life back in the Premier League.
The Middlesbrough official site say: “Boro have agreed a deal to sign United States worldwide goalkeeper Brad Guzan. The 31-year-old made 34 appearances for Villa last season and played every game for Jurgen Klinsmann’s U.S. squad in the summer as they reached the Copa America semi-final”.
Middlesbrough have completed the signing of goalkeeper Brad Guzan from Aston Villa on a two-year-deal, the club have confirmed. While not disclosed, it’s expected he joined on a free transfer as Aston Villa were looking to unload his salary from their books and didn’t demand a transfer fee.
Guzan has been at Villa for seven years and he is the second goalkeeper to arrive in the transfer window following former Barcelona and Manchester United ‘keeper Victor Valdes.
It will be very interesting to see how this move affects Guzan’s standing with the national team.
He didn’t exactly lock up the spot at the Copa America.
