Middlesbrough sign David Nugent from Leicester City on three-year contract
The 30-year-old former England worldwide has joined the Championship side for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around £4million, from Leicester City.
“I want to be back in the Premier League as quick as possible and I’m sure the rest of the lads do, the manager and the fans, too”, he said.
Middlesbrough had been linked heavily with Blackburn Rovers’ Jordan Rhodes and reportedly had a £12m bid for the 25-year-old turned down.
Nugent, who scored 20 goals to help Leicester win the Championship title in 2013-14, is delighted to finally be a Boro player.
“At the moment I have four strikers and the combination is good”, said Ranieri.
“Once again we are showing that we are working together – the chairman, the chief executive, the club – everybody is working together and we are bringing in the right players and, especially for me, good people, and players who want to come here and for me that is the main thing”.
“I am just happy to be here and can’t wait to start playing and get Middlesbrough where they belong”.
“Boro just missed out on the Premier League last year, Stewie Downing has signed, I’ve come and hopefully we can get automatic promotion this season”. “I had a season with Leicester getting promoted so I know what it is all about”.
“I believe we are signing a very good player”. You never say never in football, but we are not actively looking for anyone else right now.
