Miesha Tate on Holly Holm victory: ‘Honestly, f- Ronda Rousey’
A FIERCE rival of Ronda Rousey has been quick to knock the former champion while she’s down, following Sunday’s shock UFC knockout defeat in the bantamweight title fight to Holly Holm in Melbourne.
Miesha Tate was reportedly promised to fight the formerly undefeated Rousey at UFC 193 last night, before UFC made a decision to go with Holm instead.
But Holm had the switch to mixed martial arts four years ago, was expected to ask new questions of Rousey with her superior stand-up game and footwork and she did just that. An ecstatic Holm jumped around the ring as Rousey received medical treatment. Rousey did not speak after the fight; she was taken to a local hospital, where she was kept overnight and was to have plastic surgery for a deep cut on her lip.
“I have never placed a bet in my life”, said Tammy Bredy, Holm’s mother. All of a sudden, halfway through that first round, game plan A wasn’t working…. “The Cyborg fight … a few other stuff we were working on”.
Dolce said Rousey’s hospital stay was precautionary and tests had ruled out concussion. This is one more fight and there’s so much more to prove, “Holm told ESPN”. According to the UK’s Mirror, Ronda decided that Holly was “fake” nice, which supposedly justified her blatantly disrespectful behavior toward the now champion.
The fight was the first UFC event ever held in Melbourne and drew 56,214 fans, breaking the previous attendance record of 55,724 set at UFC 129 on April 30, 2011.
The other major flaw in Rousey’s boxing was her willingness to get tagged by powerful hooks to land jabs.
It was a stunning upset, with Rousey coming in talking about when she won, not if.
“I knew that she still has power but you have to be within range to get hit so a lot of the gameplan was to move and be precise”. I haven’t spent this much time in the gym in my life.
“It’s a lot to take in, but those kinds of fights are the ones where a loss is devastating but a win is that sweet of a victory”.
The matchup didn’t earn Rousey any sportsmanship points either.
