Miesha Tate’s perseverance rewarded with UFC 200 star role
“She’s at the lowest point of her career”.
For new fans tuning in specifically for Lesnar, that means that Nunes’ fight with Tate could serve as a first taste of what the women’s divisions have to offer.
Holm and Rousey were the obvious candidates but instead the shot to glory was handed to the in-form Brazilian Nunes.
Tate was the final fighter to hit the scale on Friday as she arrived before the commission nearly exactly at 10 a.m.
One notable exception came when Rousey attacked Tate’s transient training. “This is definitely my time”. “I’m going to show everybody”. I’ve seen a lot of titles changing hands recently and a lot of single-win, no-defense champions.
“I scare myself with how incredible this camp went”, Tate said. UFC 196 saw her beat Valentina Shevchenko, achieving victory by a unanimous decision.
What’s most interesting was her life in Brazil. “She has a tendency to break in fights, and I have a tendency to break people in fights”. Tate knows that as well as anyone.
Rousey, then women’s bantamweight champion, used the cameras and microphones constantly hovering around her to torment Tate with insults and criticism.
Miesha Tate: “I just think I have more tenacity”.
“I feel like that’s why I’m here today”. “For sure it’s a happy place and the girls are always there and that makes me happy”. Coming to Las Vegas and making camp in the Valley’s most famous mixed martial arts gym, Xtreme Couture, has allowed her to transcend a reputation as Rousey rival and nomadic fighter.
“She’s never faced anyone like me”.
Tate has promised that she will not let go of the title anytime soon.
The snub set up a fine narrative, though, after Holm shocked Rousey as Tate became the inevitable next challenger. She took Holm to the ground, gained back control and choked “The Preacher’s Daughter” out cold in a captivating comeback. Her media obligations have increased, but she’s just enjoying the long roller coaster ride. “So I think it’s a great matchup”.
He began dedicating himself as much to her career as his own. “I just couldn’t find the ideal spot”. Holding on to a UFC belt is arguably even more hard than the pursuit of winning one, and with that comes vast pressure not to falter when the spotlight shines brightest.
UFC 200: Cormier vs. Jones 2 features a UFC Light Heavyweight Championship unification rematch between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones.
Undeterred, the fighter known as “Cupcake” finally found a sweet recipe for success in UFC’s octagon as she embarked on a four-fight winning run.
Tate, though, is not one of them – eyeing in Nunes a “tendency to break” amid doubts over her stamina. If she hadn’t stepped on the scale by the 10 a.m. local cut-off time, Tate would have been disqualified and pulled from the fight card. “Her biggest problem is herself and her mind”. I think she likes to be delivering.
They say you are not really a champion until you defend your title.
“I know that when I’ve gone through the toughest of tough times, I’ve been head kicked and knocked out, before”. He has the power to take down anybody when he wants to.
