Migrant crisis: Serbia compares Croatia to ‘fascist-era regime’

About 500 migrants have been stranded at a Christian Orthodox cemetery in no man’s land between Serbia and Croatia. After crossing into Hungary, trains then take the migrants to the Austrian border. Croatian police said it was due to a computer glitch.
“Mix it up a little”, Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic said. “Within 15 minutes, they responded in a way that reminds us of the events from the 1990s, and we wish to forget that”, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said. “Croatia has breached all European agreements and directives”.
But Bulgaria, until now a secondary transit country for refugees, feared that the EU’s latest actions would only divert more of the migrants coming from Turkey onto its territory. We can function with 4,000 to 5,000 people a day. Milanovic, nevertheless, said he was confident Serbia was bluffing.
While almost all the migrants are now taking a detour and entering from Croatia, Hungary is also building a fence on that border which Orban said would be ready by the weekend.
Weeks ago, most would have found the quickest route into the European Union and their preferred destination of Germany was from Serbia into Hungary.
Over the past year Germany has received hundreds of thousands of Syrians, Iraqis and others fleeing war and poverty.
“We have nothing. No water, no food, no shelter”.
The meeting Thursday in Berlin is aimed at improving cooperation between national and local authorities, and speeding up the bureaucratic process of asylum claims.
Croatian border police are stopping all Serbian vehicles from entering the country in protest at Serbia’s decision to transport migrants to the border. Ostojic, however, said there had been “a problem with passports”. Croatia shut all but one of its crossings with Serbia last week to block the migrant influx, which has reached 34,900 in just a few days.
Croatia in turn sends them north across its own border with Hungary, which passes them on to Austria, but Zagreb says it can not cope with the pace of the influx.
The closure has cut Serbia off from its main trading partners in Europe and is crippling the economy, costing both nations as much as €1 million euros ($1.1 million) a day.
Earlier, Vucic called an emergency session of all security services, including the military, to discuss the crisis.
