Mike Daniels: I Wanted to Be in Green Bay
Green Bay, WI (NNCNOW.com) — The Green Bay Packers have signed defensive end Mike Daniels to a long-term contract extension, the team announced on Monday morning.
Daniels, who was drafted out of the University of Iowa in the fourth round (No. 132 overall) by the Packers with the first of two fourth-round selections in 2012, has started every game since the start of the 2014 season.
The Packers have signed defensive lineman Mike Daniels to a contract extension, keeping one of the top potential free agents off the open market this offseason.
The deal was likely paved by Corey Liuget’s five-year, $51.25 million summer extension with the Chargers, though Daniels has outplayed Liuget significantly this season. ESPN was first to report the deal.
“My agent called me, gave me the lay, and had to agree with him”, Daniels said.
“They chose to keep me here longer so, I have to continue to make them right”. He’s a force in the trenches, aided in part also by the return of B.J. Raji this season from an arm injury. Daniels has been performing on an other worldly level so far in 2015, churning out sacks, tackles and pressures – leading the charge for Green Bay’s sack hungry defense. He leads the defensive line in tackles with 56, even though he was shut out Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.
“Everyone told me that I’d be insane to leave Green Bay”.
