Mike Francesa goes off on Odell Beckham, Jr
According to ESPN, an unnamed Giants source said Monday that “Giants players on the field heard Panthers defensive players direct anti-gay slurs and expletives at Beckham before the game”.
Experts believe the appeal ruling will go against Beckham who was called for three personal fouls in the Panthers game and was fined on a previous occasion this year for punching a Buffalo Bills player.
A new video of the Giants and Panthers’ warmups shows Odell Beckham Jr. and Panthers practice squad player Marcus Ball needing to be separated after exchanging words.
Odell Beckham’s dirty play in a loss to the Carolina Panthers last week has dominated the sports headlines. He’d be held over the fire, and bank it, it’d be much more than a one-game slap on the wrist.
The Giants (6-8) face a key game on Sunday night at Minnesota.
OutSports is reporting that the Giants were also hosting a group of LGBT youth during the game as part of the team’s work with the You Can Play project and the Hetrick-Martin Institute.
Exhibiting frustration with the lack of hard evidence that homophobic slurs were directed at Beckham, Rivera said that if there’s proof this occurred, he’d like to know so he can deal with the situation appropriately. He also couldn’t resist taking a shot at the NFL. It shouldn’t have surprised anyone that Coughlin left Beckham in the game vs. Carolina after watching Odell punch players on the Bills and say it was good blocking.
During the suspension, Beckham will not be permitted to attend team meetings and functions; attend or watch practices; appear at the club’s facilities for any reason; attend press conferences; appear at the team’s December 27 game; or have contact with any club personnel except to arrange off-site medical treatment or rehabilitation. “And I have never met this person who is making these claims”.
Rivera said the bat controversy was overblown – pointing out it was a motivational prop used previously by other teams and players – and added the Panthers take the other allegations seriously and will take appropriate action if needed.
“He has great energy, great enthusiasm, he gives great effort”.
Beckham’s frustration seemed to grow after he dropped a sure touchdown pass from quarterback Eli Manning after beating Norman early in the first quarter. If Washington loses, the Giants will still be in the playoff hunt when the game begins.
The NFL sent an official release with a detailed explanation later Monday afternoon, saying that NFL vice president of football operations Merton Hanks ruled that Beckham’s actions put his opponents at unnecessary risk of injury.
