Mike Iupati: (Knee) To Undergo Arthroscopic Surgery
Cardinals guard Mike Iupati will undergo knee surgery and miss about six weeks, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Peters previously tore his Achilles with the Atlanta Falcons is on the first year of a three year, $10.6 million dollar contract.
Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians told reporters after practice on Wednesday that he was sending Iupati, who had missed the session, to a doctor to determine what was wrong with his prized free agent.
Rookie Rodney Gunter, a fourth-round pick from Delaware State, has been moved up on the depth chart to replace Peters.
In 2013, Peters suffered a torn Achilles in his right leg. It’s really devastating because he was having such a great camp.
Another NFC West team has been dealt a significant blow, as the Cardinals may have lost premier guard Mike Iupati for the first part of the season. He began his career with 58 straight starts before a sprained left MCL sidelined him four weeks in 2013.
Iupati, who made the Pro Bowl three times in five years with the 49ers, signed a 5-year deal that pays an average of $8 million a season. Bobby Massie is facing a three-game suspension and the center position seems to be in flux as neither A.Q. Shipley or Ted Larsen was able to stake their claim to the spot. Cardinal fans are going to have to wait a while if they were planning on seeing any extended play time out of new guard.
