Mike McCarthy on out of sorts offense: Don’t overreact
Ironically, the Packers-Detroit Lions game featured the Packers’ “Salute to Service” to honor the U.S. Armed Forces.
Barry Sanders rushed for 85 yards, Erik Kramer tossed two touchdown passes and Mel Gray scored on an 85-yard punt return.
Rodgers was off target on a number of his pass attempts, more than he has been at any point this season.
Aaron Rodgers warms up before the game against the Lions.
“You just have to stay true to your preparation, don’t overreact, and keep things in perspective”, McCarthy said, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. There were moments of silence throughout the league, and many teams, players and fans displayed French flags.
The Lions signal caller realizes they played a less than ideal game, but in the end they were able to close the deal and that’s all that matters.
“It’s that kind of prejudicial ideology that puts us in the position that we’re in today as a world”, Rodgers told reporters.
“I think you always have sequences of games in seasons that you can look back on where one phase isn’t playing as well as the other, ” coach Mike McCarthy said.
“We don’t really care who gives us a chance, because we feel good about ourselves in that locker room and we know what we’re about”, Stafford said.
Rodgers took a shot to his left knee – “a little low”, he said – from Lions defensive end Ziggy Ansah in the fourth quarter, but he and the offense were out of sorts well before that.
But Green Bay recovered the onside kick after Lions receiver Calvin Johnson dropped the ball and it was recovered by Damarious Randall.
The Packers’ running game also stalled, with James Starks gaining just 42 yards on 15 carries. They’re a game behind the Vikings and the Arizona Cardinals, and now find themselves three behind the 9-0 Carolina Panthers. There’s definitely not the balance you’d like, run to pass. Definitely some big play opportunities that were missed early in the game.
