Mike Pence Defends Donald Trump’s Campaign Rhetoric on ’60 Minutes’
Calling Pence his “first choice” as the running mate, Trump also touted Pence’s job-creating credentials.
But they’re having no trouble getting behind Trump’s newly announced running mate, Indiana Governor Mike Pence.
“I’m here today to introduce the man who will be my partner in this campaign, and the White House, to fix our system”. Trump also said of Pence and Clinton, “He’s entitled to make a mistake every once in a while”.
Trump used the example of how he calls Hillary Clinton “Crooked Hillary” as something that he doesn’t expect or want Pence to do.
“Thank you everybody, thank you”, Trump finally concluded.
“My family and I couldn’t be more humbled and honored by the confidence that our nominee and his family have placed in us”, Pence said.
The decision to choose Pence came from Indiana, Trump said, the very state whose primary became the last beacon of hope for the Never Trump forces to try and stop the now presumptive nominee from getting the nomination.
On Friday, Trump tweeted his pick of Pence just before a deadline for the governor to withdraw from the November ballot for re-election.
Trump acknowledged that the choice was about unifying the party. “So many people have said “party unity” [to me]”. But he talked about Trump, Ted, then he went back to Trump. The two shook hands afterward and posed for pictures with supporters.
“My problem with the choice of Pence is it to satisfy the party rather than to satisfy the people of the country?” said IN resident Joyce Bunnell.
“We must bring a change to America’s standing in the world”, Pence said.
The less-than-half-full hangar was devoid of any campaign signs or other hints that Pence is now a part of the Republican presidential ticket, aside from the music.
