Mike Pompeo warns North Korea sanctions will not be lifted before denuclearisation
Experts say the North has enough material to make 25-30 nuclear weapons.

Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un pledged, in the first ever meeting between leaders of the longtime foes, to work toward complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula while Washington committed to providing security guarantees. “Only then will there be relief from the sanctions”.
MPompeo was speaking at a press conference in Seoul with his South Korean and Japanese counterparts.
Democratic lawmakers pointed out that North Korea had often made similar statements in the past about “denuclearization”, all the while developing nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles that could be capable of striking the US, Reuters reported.
Later, Pompeo traveled to Beijing were he spoke to China’s foreign minister Wang Yi. “It was a bad thing, it was brutal, but a lot of people started to focus on what was going on, including North Korea”. He also said the US should continue to, in Wang’s words, “work through China”.
Bob Menendez, the New Jersey senator who is the committee’s senior Democrat, criticised Trump for not notifying South Korea and Japan, the two USA allies in the region, before he announced the drills’ cancellation.
At the time, Trump called Obama an “amateur”.

It’s possible North Korean officials during the talks at the border village of Panmunjom will seek a firm commitment from the South on stopping its military drills with the United States.
Mr Pompeo, the former Central Intelligence Agency director, planned to fly to Beijing later Thursday to update the Chinese government about the talks.
North Korea blamed botulism and ingestion of a sleeping pill and dismissed torture claims.
The Hwasong-14 was the first North Korean missile that experts said could hit the USA mainland with a nuclear payload.
And he sought reassurance that the USA military presence in Japan would not be reduced, after Trump indicated that he would like to withdraw all or some of the more than 28,000 troops in South Korea at some point, as both a cost saving measure, and to reduce a perceived overextended US military presence overseas.
