Mike Tomlin outlines which Pittsburgh Steelers may rest vs. Cleveland Browns
At 8-6, the Ravens sit one game behind Pittsburgh in the AFC North. The key play to swing the game was a 37-yard catch by Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, who has since suffered a season-ending injury.
“It’s pretty special the way we won it”, Roethlisberger said. Then a single draft pick changed the name, game, and identity of the club forever.
The outcome wasn’t settled until the final snap, and that’s what the Steelers expect when they play the Ravens. After fullback Kyle Juszczyk bulldozed his way to a 10-yard touchdown run that gave the Ravens a 27-24 edge with just more than a minute remaining, Roethlisberger led the Steelers down the field once more. And Baltimore replaced the Browns and Bengals (and the Oilers, if you recall) as Pittsburgh’s eternal tormentors.
Stephon Tuitt is still rehabbing his knee and there was no update to his status and Ladarius Green is still in the NFL’s concussion protocol.
Pittsburgh running back Le’Veon Bell (26) celebrates with Ramon Foster after scoring a second-half touchdown against Baltimore Sunday at Heinz Field.
Also under consideration for rest would be obviously Ben Roethlisberger.
“The teachable moment is in the most adverse circumstances is you go with what you know and what you’re comfortable with and all other variables aside, that’s a high, high frequency play for us in that area of the field thrown to a guy that we’ve got great confidence in”, said Tomlin.
There’s no need to preview the Browns. Hats off to the Steelers, they came through in the end. “He goes everyday as the show team and busts his butt and gets hit and just doesn’t stop, so it’s neat to see that pay off for a guy like that”.
There will not be much Week 17 drama in the AFC, where all six playoff teams have clinched and only the order of their seeding is not yet determined.
“It’s tough to balance that”, coach John Harbaugh said after the game.
Before we move on to the other winners of the week, let’s take a moment to appreciate the latest installment of the Steelers-Ravens rivalry.
“It would be nice to take Le’Veon Bell into a playoff stadium”, Tomlin said.
Coach Mike Tomlin said he was strongly considering making his offensive starts inactive for the Week 17 matchup.
If the Steelers make it past the Wildcard round, here’s who the Steelers would face in the Divsional round if…
Tomlin provided a flawless response that was both humble and provided a zing to Bradshaw forty years in the making. “I’ve been fortunate in that respect”.
“It was just taking a deep breath and realizing what we have on defence, what they’re doing for us”, Savage said. I’m proud of our guys. “I’m not looking and saying, ‘OK, that’s D.A. Do I throw this, do I not?’ I have full faith, belief and trust that whoever it is, he is going to make the play”. “I knew I was going to have to take some contact. I grew up a Dallas fan, particularly a Hollywood Henderson fan”.
