Mike Tomlin to give update on Ben Roethlisberger Friday
The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for Michael Vick to be the starting quarterback afters Ben Roethlisberger went down for a knee injury in a win, 12-6, against the St Louis Rams. I don’t want to take anything away from those guys. Tomlin confirmed that Roethlisberger indeed suffered a sprained MCL ligament in his left knee, but would not speculate on any timetable for his return.
Quarterback Mike Vick, signed by the Steelers on August 25, will now take the controls of what was supposed to be one of the NFL’s most dynamic offenses and try to keep things humming until Ben Roethlisberger returns from his left knee injury.
Pittsburgh’s offense, which averaged 32 points over its first two games, was struggling before Roethlisberger was hurt.
“I think the passing game will be structured differently”, former Dallas Cowboys vice president of player personnel Gil Brandt told USA TODAY Sports.
“I just caught his leg on the way in”, Barron said.
Roethlisberger, who completed 20 of 24 passes for 192 yards with an interception before the injury, hasn’t missed a game since late in 2012.
We hate to see a team lose their big man on the field, especially someone with such a winning history like Ben!
Vick is arguably the best scrambling quarterback of his generation, having rushed for more than 6,000 yards.
The Rams predictably kept the rookie’s carries to a minimum.
Roethlisberger hasn’t missed a game since late in the 2012 season.
The Rams were limited to two field goals by Greg Zuerlein and have scored just 16 points their past two games.
Patriots QB Tom Brady threw his 400th career touchdown pass, hitting Danny Amendola on a 1-yard pass just before halftime of the Patriots game against Jacksonville.
While Tomlin said he’ll continue to go with his gut when opting to go for 2 or kick. Vick will have considerably more weapons at his disposal in Pittsburgh with running back LeVeon Bell and wide receiver Antonio Brown. Vick didn’t look good on the job previous year with the Jets, but he was working with nearly no support in New York and has possibly the best offensive situation he can in Pittsburgh.
“It’s good that Bell is back because he’s going to be a big piece of all of this”, Shonka said.
In the short term, however, Marshall said the team can rally around Vick and he expects Pittsburgh to play well Thursday. “If he’s got to play next week, then he gets a full week of preparation, so my standard of expectation will be a little different under those circumstances”.
