Mike Vrabel early favorite for Titans job

Prior to becoming assistant head coach last season, Crennel had been defensive coordinator for the Texans since 2014.

Here are a few options I expect Vrabel to consider.

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The NFL said Friday that the Oakland Raiders complied with the “Rooney Rule” when they hired Jon Gruden as head coach. There were early reports that Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels coveted the vacancy in Tennessee. I think this was a great hire by the Titans, and in time people will see that. He is one of those guys that is just a head coach. That’s what Vrabel’s apologists will say, and it’s clearly a derivative of what the Titans believe.

The Titans have announced the hiring of Mike Vrabel as their next coach. LaFleur started in the National Football League as an offensive assistant with the Houston. As a first-time head coach, his readiness will be revealed in time.

The Titans will interview Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, and Rams offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur next. Day has worked with Chip Kelly on several occasions (he also played for him at the University of New Hampshire), most recently serving as his QBs coach when Kelly held the head job in San Francisco in 2016.

Day and Vrabel have a connection through Ohio State, where the latter began his coaching career and played during college.

There’s plenty of jealousy directed New England’s way in the NFL. “And I think players will want to play for him”. He was the ultimate team-first player, and he embodies that same mindset as a coach. He was the Miami Dolphins’ interim offensive coordinator in 2015. The defensive coordinator in 2018 will be the same high performer they had in 2016.

It’s likely a Marcus Mariota thing.
