Milan Confirms Mourinho’s Return To Serie A
Mourinho is set to be handed as much as £300 million to alter the makeup of the United squad and reassert them as contenders for silverware, both domestically and in Europe.
He has since returned to the Premier League, but following his second sacking at Chelsea late past year he has been heavily linked with taking over from Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.
Inter Milan’s honorary president Massimo Moratti confirmed on Thursday that the special one will head to San Siro this weekend.
“A gift for the fans?”
United have indicated they will hand Mourinho £16million-a-year, equivalent to £308,000-a-week, in a bid to install him as their new manager at the end of the season.
“We’d scheduled a lunch either here or in London, and we took the opportunity of the Sampdoria match to see each other”.
As such, Mourinho has rejected lucrative job offers from Italy, where he won an unprecedented treble with Inter Milan previously, and from the emerging football market in China.
But his accepting Moratti’s invitation is an indication that the Portuguese is growing impatient at United’s failure to act and make a formal approach for his services.
Van Gaal has also not advanced his cause with his increasingly fractious and freakish dealings with the media, and there is little sense that his behaviour is any more attractive than Mourinho’s was in the final weeks of his Chelsea reign.
