Miles expects to be fired by LSU after Saturday’s game
Miles said Alleva told him following the game that he would not be fired.
Throughout game day, Miles’ biggest fans made sure they were seen and heard.
Les Miles received more hugs than LSU and Texas A&M totaled in points Saturday night as he made his way off the Tiger Stadium field for what many believed would be his final game as LSU coach.
Alleva informed Miles minutes before telling reporters. Taking over at their own 28-yard line, a face-mask penalty on the Irish moved the ball out to the 43-yard line with:15 left. That said, it has become apparent that it is time for the two parties to part ways.
It’s plausible Les Miles has been told directly or through his representatives that the school intends to sever ties with him.
Sophomore Derrius Guice added a 50-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter to give LSU a 13-7 lead. Quarterback Brandon Harris struggled all game, completing 7 of 21 passes for 83 yards, but star tailback Leonard Fournette ran 32 times for 159 yards and a touchdown and caught four passes for 43 yards.
LSU played very well on defense.
Saturday’s matchup against the Aggies will determine if Miles will finish with a winning record in conference play this season.
Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin said his team’s turnovers and problems protecting Allen tipped the game in LSU’s favor.
“I had no suggestion that this was going to be my last game in Tiger Stadium”, said Miles, speaking of the booster meeting.
National media and LSU fans have been assuming for weeks that Les Miles was gone, with most of the speculation centering on current Florida State and former LSU assistant Jimbo Fisher.
Alleva’s announcement capped a insane two weeks at LSU when it was first reported Miles was “coaching for his job” in the last two weeks of the season. Going up against an LSU defense that has displayed a penchant for giving up large gains through the air, expect the speedy wide-out to record his fifth 100-yard performance of the year.
LSU football coach Les Miles kept his job his way. Then LSU remembered it possessed a powerful running game, and the Aggies paid the price in the Tigers’ 19-7 victory on Saturday night. “That’s how we think of it. That’s how this team thinks of it. We wouldn’t want anyone else here”. Many of them said this week that they have not spoken to the coach since he left the program for A&M after the Music City Bowl last season – a stunning departure.
Various chants echoed throughout Death Valley, with the crowd imploring LSU to keep Miles.
Fournette will finish the regular season with 1,741 yards, which is nothing to scoff at; Heisman or not. There were also several signs in support of Miles and asking for the firing of Alleva.
