Miles gets win in LSU home finale, 19-7 over Texas A&M
“This team should be competing for championships”.
“Lot of good kids there I really care for and wish them the best”, Chavis continued, “but not on this day”. The Aggies exited the Big 12 three years ago – and are still angling for that first victory against new rival LSU. “The only thing I can tell you is that I enjoyed coaching this team, and I am very proud”, said Miles. “That’s how we think of it. That’s how this team thinks of it. We wouldn’t want anyone else here”. There’s some work to do there. If not, then the program is going to get worse before it gets better, and considering the impatience of the boosters, they are not going to like that either.
Texas A&M Aggies scored 32.1 points compared to allowed 24.6 points with point differential of 7.5.
Even in victory, Harris had an abysmal performance. In the third quarter, Fournette broke the school’s single-season rushing record that was previous held by Texas native Charles Alexander. The Tigers settled for 32 yard Trent Domingue field goal, giving them their first lead in the month of November 3-0 with 10:58 to play in the first quarter.
Texas A&M (8-4, 4-4 SEC) was led by quarterback Kyle Allen, who was 15-of-28 passing for 161 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
LSUfaced nothing but uncertainty as it prepared for its regular-season finale – and possibly Les Miles’ final game as its coach – against Texas A&Mon Saturday night.
“Let’s rally the troops”, Miles said earlier this week.
“Scary”, he responded. “I know now what it’s like to ride an elephant”. “We didn’t play very smart tonight, and in a game like that, with the emotion of senior night and everything that’s going on here, you can’t make the mistakes we made tonight and expect to win”.
Miles reportedly has already made it known that he will not be in Baton Rouge next season, according to Jim Kleinpeter of the Times-Picayune.
If Saturday marked Les Miles’ last home game as head coach of the LSU Tigers, then he surely went out in style.
“It’s the mini National Football League and sometimes people have to make the right decisions for themselves and sometimes as players we’ve got to understand that”.
LSU’s powers began planning to keep Miles this week amid fears they would not get Fisher.
LSU’s sports information director said Miles used the meeting as an opportunity to thank members of the Gridiron Club if Saturday turned out to be his last game at LSU. “I’m not distracted easily”. “My expectations are so high”. Some composure issues out of some guys that was concerning, we just talked about that in the locker room.
Miles would not rule out staff changes, but he seemed to support offensive coordinator Cam Cameron.
