Minecraft: Story Mode – Meet the Cast trailer
To celebrate the launch of its latest episodic affair, Telltale Games has released a behind-the-scenes “Meet the Cast” trailer for Minecraft: Story Mode.
Minecraft: Story Mode Episode 1: The Order of the Stone will be landing on Android on October 15th, 2015, which is this Thursday. It will also eventually come to PS Vita and Nintendo Wii U.
Minecraft: Story Mode – A Telltale Games Series season pass disc will be available at retail in North America on Tuesday, October 27th, and in Europe on Friday, October 30th.
If other titles are any guide there’ll be two to three months between each download, so the next one isn’t expected this year.
In Minecraft story mode, you take on the role of Jesse, a character whose gender is determined by the player. You and your friends revere the legendary Order of the Stone: Warrior, Redstone Engineer, Griefer, and Architect; slayers of the Ender Dragon. While at EnderCon in hopes of meeting Gabriel the Warrior, Jesse’s friends discover that something is wrong… something terrible. A few of the bigger names include Patton Oswalt, Scott Portier, Brian Posehn, Martha Plimpton, Corey Feldman, and Paul Reubens. “Minecraft: Story Mode”, on the other hand, is being developed by Telltale Games. Future content in the season is yet to be rated by the ESRB.
Judging by this opener, characters are more likely to be a bit angry or just turn up later than planned than straight up snuff it, and as such it lacks that trademark tension you might be seeking from a Telltale game.
Mojang is a Microsoft owned game studio based in Stockholm, Sweden. In response to the apparent contradiction between making a game that is “an all-ages adventure”, and producing something that can only be bought by tenagers and adults, Perusco pointed to the older films that inspired Telltale Games’ story.
When it comes to playing, this is very much in line with Telltale’s other adventures – expect many conversations punctuated with tense choices – so those expecting something closer to Minecraft’s freedom might come away a little disappointed.
Although Telltale made their mark with The Walking Dead, most of their previous work had been largely family friendly, starting with the Bone comic book adaptations, the LucasArts-inspired Sam & Max and Monkey Island games, and even a Wallace & Gromit tie-in.
“Minecraft: Story Mode” has no release date yet. Games, Wired, Spike TV VGAs, E!, Official Xbox Magazine, The Telegraph, Metacritic, and more.
