Minnesota Wild assistant coach Sydor arrested for DUI
Longtime National Hockey League defenseman and current Minnesota Wild assistant coach Darryl Sydor was arrested Thursday evening on suspicion of drunk driving in Fridley, Minnesota.
After arriving on the scene, police determined that Sydor was displaying “erratic behavior”, and when stopped, Sydor had bloodshot, watery eyes and “slow, slurred speech”, Fridley Police Lt. Mike Monsrud told. The team was gathering information, but declining comment for now.
Kamloops Blazers part-owner Darryl Sydor is facing drunk driving charges after having been arrested in Minnesota. He submitted to a blood alcohol test at the police station that came back at.30, nearly four times the legal limit of.08.
Sydor remains in Anoka County Jail and is facing two counts of second-degree driving while impaired. He failed field sobriety tests with a blood alcohol level of 0.30, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, and was taken to the Fridley Police Department.
Sydor said in April that he sought treatment for alcoholism last summer and entered a rehabilitation facility in Canada.
Sydor, who lives in Woodbury, had difficulty finding his driver’s license in his wallet and passed by it several times after police requested it, Monsrud said. The officer called the boy’s mother, Sharlene Sydor, and told her what was happening. He joined the Wild as an assistant in the 2011-12 season. He won the Stanley Cup with the Dallas Stars in 1999 and Tampa Bay Lightning in 2004.
