Minority Report: Episodes Cut; Cancelled Soon?
While Blindspot was the first series to swing a back nine order, Minority Report is the first series to have its order cut in lieu of a cancellation.
Sorry “Minority Report” fans, but the show you have just started to get into may already be on its way to meeting its demise. It comes just hours after CBS announced that another Amblin-produced show, “Extant“, had been canceled, and that the network had ordered a new series from Amblin, “American Gothic”, for summer 2016. The three other episodes were supposed to air when the series returns a few months later. 7 live-plus-same day rating in the 18-49 demo for its most recent episode. The ratings dropped almost 20% in week two and then fell about the same amount again last Monday, hitting a 0.70 rating with 2.075 million.
It is one of the Fall 2015 remakes, reboots and adaptions, alongside “Heroes Reborn”, “Limitless” and “Uncle Buck”.
Over the next seven episodes, Minority Report will need to work hard to claim its spot in FOX’s lineup for a second season.
Speaking on why Fox jumped into the bandwagon of remakes and adaptations, FOX CEO Gary Newman said, “I think having familiar IP is an advantage, and yet you’re held to the same standards as with everything else you do”.
From Max Borenstein, Minority Report is set 10 years after the end of pre-crime in D.C. when one of the three pre-cogs struggles to lead a “normal” human life, but remains haunted by visions of the future.
“Minority Report”, which will remain airing in its current Monday 9 p.m. time slot, was always scheduled to have 10 episodes air this fall, with week ten serving as the big fall finale.
