Minute’s silence to be held for Shoreham air crash victims
All of the deaths occurred on the road, police said, and it was believed that none of the people on the airfield were among the injured, officials said.
“West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has sent 10 appliances to the scene”.
The roadway, called the A27, just north of the Shoreham airport, is closed going both ways, along with the interchange at Lancing.
Visitors to the site were kept at the airfield until around 7pm.
Today’s airshow has been cancelled as a mark of respect, organisers said.
Prime Minister David Cameron sent his condolences to the victims’ families.

A video of the crash has been published online showing the plane bursting into flames. It was not but recognized whether or not the jet pilot was capable of eject or not. The plane appeared to be flying a loop before hitting the ground, where it reportedly struck several cars. Debris was visible across the road. “It just didn’t seem to have enough speed to come out of the loop, instead of powering out it dropped too fast and hit the ground”.
Ailish Southall was driving along the A27 with her two children when the plane came down close to them.
“We mustn’t rush to knee-jerk reactions about the safety of airshows”, he told Sky News.
In 2007 another Hawker Hunter crashed.
“The plane was coming out of a loop-the-loop, it was fairly low”, he said. Fire, thick and black smoke have been seen according to photos posted on the Internet. A major incident is declared.
An Air Accidents Investigation Branch report (AAIB) concluded that an unplanned manoeuvre likely caused the accident.
The airport was where the event – formally known as the Royal Air Forces Association air show – was taking place.
He said: “It’s tragic news that it has been confirmed that there have been fatalities and we obviously hope that those numbers will not increase”.
She said about 20,000 people were at the show and they descended into “hushed silence”.
St Mary’s and the Church of the Good Shepherd on Shoreham Beach will also remain open all day to anyone who wants to say prayers, it said.
