Miranda Hart no longer returning to Call the Midwife
The 43-year-old comedienne was expected to reprise her role as loveable nurse Camilla “Chummy” Browne in the next series of the popular period drama but she’s been forced to drop out due to her conflicting working schedule.
This isn’t the first time the star has left the programme. Her absence in season five was put down to her being sent to a mother and baby unit, though it was of course down to Miranda’s other work commitments, which included starring alongside, oh, y’know, Melissa McCarthy and Jude Law in comedy action movie Spy.
The BBC previously announced that her character of Chummy would be returning for this year’s Christmas special, however, Miranda has shared on social media that this will no longer be happening, due to her heavy workload in the next few months.
The show’s producers had promised that she would be returning to the show for series six.
Hart added: ‘Truly sad not to be playing Chummy this year but fans are in for a treat with Dame Harriet Walter as a new cast member and more besides’. She has appeared in Sense and Sensibility, Atonement and Downtown Abbey.
Dame Harriet will play Sister Ursula, a character she describes as a “not very welcome addition” to the midwifery team. Fingers crossed she can be reborn into the show at a later date.
And a year ago she made her Hollywood debut, appearing in the film Spy alongside Melissa McCarthy.
And fans could help but express their dismay as the much loved midwife is set to hang up her bike.
Miranda Hart will not be returning to her role as “Chummy” in BBC One’s Call the Midwife, as was reported in April.
While another tweeted: “so gutted!”
Bad news, Call the Midwife fans.
