Mirza-Hingis lift women’s doubles title at Wuhan Open
The Indo-Swiss pair registered a 6-2, 6-3 straight sets victory over the Romanian duo of Irina Camelia-Begu and Monica Niculescu.
The Indo-Swiss pair earlier defeated fifth seeded American pair of Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears 6-2, 6-2 in the last eight stage. They have also won two Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon and the US Open, since joining forces in March.
This was the seventh title that the Sania-Martina combination ahve won this year. The Wuhan Open is the pair’s 7 title in 2015 and they would be hoping to extend their winning run further and win a few more crowns before the end of the year.
Sania hit winners from the baseline at regular intervals while Hingis kept up the pressure on the Romanians with her quick reflexes and volleys.
Sania and Hingis dropped serve three times and fought back from a 2-0 deficit in the second set to emerge triumphant in the summit clash today.
