Miss Australia: Teleprompter showed Pia Wurtzbach won Miss Universe
Steve Harvey took the blame for perhaps the most epic beauty pageant host blunder of all time on Sunday night’s Miss Universe 2015 Pageant, but some are pointing to a backstage Snapchat video as proof the mistake may have been someone else’s.
Meanwhile, Miss Universe pageant’s former owner Donald Trump said he would like to make Miss Philippines and Miss Colombia a co-winner of the crown.
But as the crown first went to Miss Colombia, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos celebrated the win via Twitter, posting, “Colombian women are the most attractive in the world!”
Yesterday, ET Online reported Harvey as saying that he accidentally called out Miss Universe instead of first runner-up and realized it later upon looking at his cue card.
But Miss Germany Sarah-Lorraine Riek, who didn’t place in the top three, couldn’t resist stirring the pageant pot hours after the disastrous broadcast, telling pageant blog Missosology that Gutierrez “was robbed as the real victor”. The incident was widely discussed on social media and Harvey even apologised to the ladies.
Harvey said it was “an honest mistake” resulting from misreading a card.
Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez was crowned by Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega and the new queen glided down the stage for her victory walk, waving at crowd. Miss Germany Sarah-Lorraine Riek was shocked that Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was the true victor of the contest. “She feels sorry for both girls”, a statement from her team read. She never meant to offend Miss Philippines in any way. The attractive lady obviously got very happy but her happiness was short lived as Harvey corrected his mistake the very next minute. “But I would have passed the crown and would still be proud to represent my country”.
“I was very happy for Miss Colombia because she really deserved it. I’m really not happy with the result and so are the other girls, I’m sorry to say it. Because no one of us voted for Philippines”.
“Well you would be very disappointed, I mean it is years and years of hard work and preparation and you just wait for that moment to finally pay off”, Watson-Watkins explained.
