Miss Colombia mistakenly crowned Miss Universe; Philippines wins 2015 pageant
Harvey was hosting the Miss Universe Pageant in Las Vegas and announced the victor of the competition to be Miss Colombia.
Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines was crowned Miss Universe 2015, but only after some stage drama.
A mortified Harvey, the host of “Family Feud” and a standup comedian by trade, took the fall for wrongly reading the cue card that identified Miss Colombia as first runnerup, not victor. The above video shows Harvey making the announcement and a stunned Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, taking her victory lap after learning that she is the new Miss Universe.
The crowd was filled with mixed emotions as Miss Philippines was escorted to the center of the stage and the crown from Miss Colombia’s head was removed.
“Whatever happens, she’s won”, said Radulovic’s mom, Vinka, before Miss Universe 2015.
There will be plenty of celebrities present at Miss Universe 2015.
Then, Steve apologized on Twitter, and wrote, “I want to apologize emphatically to Miss Philippians and Miss Columbia”. I will take responsibility for this, it was my mistake.
Pageant organizers also issued a statement in which they apologized to Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines, as well as their fans. Reigning titleholder Paulina Vega, who won in Florida last January, holds the crown for only 10 months-the shortest reign in Miss Universe history.
“Listen, folks, let me just take control of this”, the host tried to explain.
I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake.
Wurtzbach’s answer to the final question as to why she should be the next Miss Universe, “I will use my voice to influence youth”. The ceremony’s host Steve Harvey mistakenly mixed up the winners’ names at the event, where India failed to clinch the title for the 15th straight year.
NBC Universal now exclusively owns the Miss Universe pageant.
Trump, who has sued Univision for $500 million, bought out NBC’s stake in the Miss Universe Organization, which produces both Sunday’s pageant and the Miss USA contest.
Donald Trump’s pageant days are over after his arguable feedback about immigrants created a backlash, still the Miss Universe show must go on.
